Hike to Sugarloaf Mountain, Sedona, Arizona

View of Capitol Butte from Sugarloaf Mountain

If you are looking for a hike where you get a lot of bang for your buck in Sedona, look no further. The hardest part of this hike is to find parking in the Sugarloaf Trailhead, which always seems to be full. The house we were renting was very close to this trailhead so we didn’t have to deal with the parking headache.

We set out on the only trail from the trailhead and instantly started running into other hikers. The beautiful views of Capitol Butte and Coffeepot Rock made up for the lack of solitude. We hit an intersection and turned right. There were a couple more intersections where we turned right, but they were all well marked, and it was clear which way to go to make it to the top of Sugarloaf. After a rather short hike, we made it to the top and had views of town in one direction and views of mountains in the other. The views were quite rewarding for such a short hike. Once we took a few pictures we headed back down the way we came. It made for a nice lunch break outing.

Total stats from the trailhead: 1.5 miles, 280 vert. round trip
